

and Ruby Hubbard. She passed on January 3, 2022. She is predeceased by her
parents and siblings Everett Hubbard and Evelyn Hoppes. She is survived by her
husband Jack Powell, son Frank Powell of Boise, Joyce Messer (Tony) of Palo
Cedro, Janice Powell of Redding, and Judy Silva (Domingo) of Mount Shasta.
She married the only love of her life, Jack Powell in 1954. Darlene was a loving
and caring wife to Jack for 68 years.
Darlene was a proud grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She leaves many cousins and nieces and nephews.
Darlene came to Shasta county from Montana in 1937. The family settled in
Summit City as her father worked on Shasta Dam. She attended Toyon
Elementary School and Shasta High. The high school color purple became her
favorite color of all. She was a teacher's aid at Deer Creek Elementary School
for many years. She loved children! She and Jack went to Sacramento for
several years until Jack's retirement from the Operating Engineers. They
returned to their family home where they lived until last August.
Darlene was proud of her family, both near and far away. She was known to
never miss a birthday! She was a loving mother, and friend to so many!
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Shasta Lake Heritage &
Historical Society, and the Contemporary Historical Car Club. She was a 70 year
member of the Order Eastern Star.
Darlene and Jack loved traveling in their RV all over the west and Mexico. They
enjoyed many cruises to warmer climates . She loved the ocean and beaches,
as well as boating and fishing on Shasta Lake. She enjoyed showing off their
1968 Chevelle Convertible in parades and car shows.
Services will be held graveside on Monday Jan. 17th at 1:pm at Lawncrest
Cemetery in Redding. There will be a reception and celebration of life from 2:30
to 4:30 at American Legion Post located at 4309 Vallecito Street, Shasta Lake
