Duane is survived by his wife, Joan Wahl, and their 5 children: Kathy Wahl-Cundieff, Terry Wahl, Anita Oberle, Kenny Wahl and Andy Wahl. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Duane grew up in Morristown, NJ and was successful in becoming a professional minor league pitcher for the Middleboro Athletics and the Abilene Blue Sox in the 1950’s. He was an Army veteran and served his country in Korea from 1957 – 1958. He moved to California in his late twenties, and was smitten by a beautiful young woman, whom he married in 1962. He and Joan celebrated 55 years of marriage in June 2017. Duane was a loving and devoted husband, as well as an incredible role model for his children, supporting and encouraging them in all phases of their life.
Duane will be lovingly remembered for his light-hearted spirit and many words of wisdom and encouragement. Everyone who knew Duane experienced his generosity, warmth and humor.
For those who loved Duane, he will always be remembered as a beloved father, an encouraging swim coach, an inspiring baseball fan, a loving dad, a faithful husband, a strong protector, a passionate sports lover, a generous man, and a wonderful friend. He will be sorely missed.
Services will be held on July 10th at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on 2600 Shasta View Drive in Redding. A Celebration of Life will take place on July 12th at 11:00 a.m. at Sierra Hall in Paradise.
