Steve was born in Glendale, California in 1949. Steve grew up in Eureka California, graduating from Eureka High School in 1967. After completing his Bachelor of Science Degree in Wildlife Management from Humboldt State University in 1972 and Basic Peace Officer Training in 1976, Steve embarked on a career in resource management. In 1976 Steve started as a Sacramento County Park Ranger, and in 1978 became a California Parks and Recreation State Park Ranger. In 1980, Steve joined the California Department of Fish and Game and served as a Game Warden in Tehama County. Steve medically retired from Law Enforcement in 1986. From 1987 until retirement, Steve transferred to the Departments Wildlife Management Division and held positions of Habitat Supervisor, Biologist and Associate Wildlife Biologist, managing state public lands in Shasta and surrounding Northern California counties. Steve retired in 2005 with 31 years of service.
Steve is survived by his wife, Colleen Arrison, five siblings: Virginia (Ken) St. John, Kathy (Bruce) Deuel, Sue (Randy) Blevins, Scott Arrison, Wayne (Diana) Arrison, his son Mathew Arrison, grandchildren Shalee Arrison and Michael Arrison, honorary grandchildren Tiana Linder and Alexis Linder, many nieces and nephews, and beloved dog Miranda.
Steve is pre-deceased by his father Benjamen Arrison, mother Juanita (Tesdale) Arrison and daughter Esther Arrison.
Steve met his wife Colleen (Harvey) in 1996. They were married in 1998 and shared the most incredible 26 years of love, friendship, and adventures.
When asked “what were the five best things you ever did”, Steve would reply:
#1. Ask for Colleen’s hand in marriage,
#2: become a father to Esther and Matt,
#3: cycle the OATBRAN bike ride, 500 miles across Nevada,
#4: aspire to work for the Department of Fish and Game, and
#5: “I may not have done it yet, so I don’t know!”
Steves passions included:
Traveling and camping with Colleen and getting as far off the grid as their 4-Wheel camper would get them. This included adventures thru Baja, Alaska, and across the US; always stopping to spend time in the deserts of Utah.
Steve was a lifelong football fan, Go Forty-Niner’s!, and watched every Superbowl game since 1967.
Steve was a member of the Tehama County photo Club and embraced all aspects of film and digital photography, including having multiple cameras for every purpose and rescuing old cameras from estate sales.
Steve loved the camaraderie of golfing with his work buddies, meeting weekly for 9-holes and a beer.
Steve looked forward to waterfowl season every fall. Getting up at 2 am, freezing in the duck blind, and grinning as his wife waded in and played retriever.
Above all, Steve was passionate about cycling: Steve completed numerous Century and metric-Century rides and week-long cycling trips across Nevada and Oregon, the Oregon Coast, Washington and Vancouver Island. Rain, wind or heat never deterred him from his weekly “gentlemen’s club” ride, or Red Bluff’s Weekenders on Wheels rides.
Services will be held Oct 4th, 2024, 10am at Hoyt-Cole Chapel in Red Bluff, followed by a reception celebrating his incredible life at 12pm at the Red Bluff Elks Lodge.
Steve will be laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery, Red Bluff, CA, next to his daughter, Esther.
