Grandma,

It is hard to wrap 48 years of love and memories into one message to you.  I am choked up as I begin to write this because your love and who you were and always will be to me has made such an impact on our entire family.

You did not have the easiest life, losing both parents so early in life, two of your children, and grandpa.  Yet you had a resilience and strong faith and you looked for the good in people and life.  You persevered.

Whenever I was with you, you were happy simply holding my hand. You were always happy to see me and encouraged me in all of my endeavors.  You were a rock for us and showed us how to live and love.  

I have so many memories that I will forever treasure.  The famous toilet paper incident, teaching me to drive on our road trip up to Washington in the old red car with grandpa, you walking me to Kindergarten everyday, sewing me a dress in college (I still have it), our trip to Santa Cruz, bringing you cut Christmas trees after grandpa passed away, watching the Young and the Restless with you, your chicken dumplings and apple pies, the many hours spent playing Scrabble, coming over to your house to go on the ice cream truck with grandpa, watching you hold my children for the first time, tell Brian that "he's the man" at our wedding brunch, and just all the snuggles on the couch as I saw you starting to leave me. 

Heaven is a lucky place to have you.  I know you are watching over me and think of you every time I see a bird.   

Today is Mother's Day!  I am spending it with mom and we are missing you....you are in our hearts.  I will hold moms hand now because you have held it for 68 years and it is my turn.  I hope to always make you proud.

I am wearing your ring today for the first time and I am carrying you with me always.
