Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Walter H. and Emily (Longacre) Kochard. Vivian graduated from Reading High School in 1946.
Married in 1948, Vivian was the loving wife of Kenneth H. Springer who devoted his life to caring for her through her challenge of Alzheimer's. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Berks County Trust prior to starting her family.
Vivian was member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Laureldale. She served as a den mother for the Cub Scouts.
She loved to bake, embroider, crochet and shop. She enjoyed walking and riding along with her husband, Kenneth when he played golf. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in all of their activities.
Her smile, laughter, enthusiasm, and eternal support of her children and grandchildren, as well as her famous "Grandma Cake" will always be missed but never forgotten. She will be especially missed by her husband and family.
In addition to her husband, Vivian is survived by two sons: Kenneth E. Springer and his wife, Anne Marie (Cavalucci) of Reading and James A. Springer and his wife, Cally (Sattler) of Leesport; a daughter: Susan J. (Springer) Leffler and her husband, Gary of Birdsboro; seven grandchildren: Stephanie (Leffler) Bricker and her husband, Jeffrey, Thomas Leffler and his wife, Tamara (Dipner); Michael Leffler; Michelle (Springer) Hassler and her husband, Kyle; Kenneth H. Springer, II, David Springer and Jessica Springer; and four great-grandchildren: Ian, Christopher, Anna and Avrie.
Also surviving are her sister, Jane (Kochard) Stetson; sister-in-law, Bernice Kochard, and sister-in-law, Marjorie Kochard.
Vivian was predeceased by two brothers: George Kochard and Walter Kochard, Jr.; and a sister, Shirley (Kochard) Gable.
A Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, September 7, 2012 in Epler Church Cemetery, Leesport. Family and friends are asked to meet in the cemetery by 2:15 p.m.
