Thelma (Harvey) Dickey, Thursday, June 23, 2022 in Tower Health Hospital.
She was born Thelma Giddens Jackson to the late John Henry Jackson and Elizabeth Giddens on December 20, 1928 in Shiloh Georgia.
She was raised by her grandparents Eddie and Julia (Copeland) Giddens; along with eight aunts and uncles who were like her sibling. Beatrice Ellison, Bertha Hardnett, Estelle McCoy, James, Eddie, Robert, Clyde and Kimble Giddens.
Searching for a better life they all began to move north to Reading, Pennsylvania.
Thelma was educated in the Talbot County School System; at an early age Thelma accepted Christ and became a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church in Manchester Georgia.
Thelma eventually moved north to Reading on Neversink Street to reside with her mother and step father Mr. Bennie Branford and the rest of the clan, being rooted and grounded in Jesus, the family all banded together for prayer and singing in their house. It was known as the Holy Ghost headquarters, from there they branched out to help form the St. John Baptist Church.
Mr. Jessie Harvey moved to Reading from South to court Thelma, and later married her and to this union four children were born Jessie Jr., Robert Leon, Joann, and much later Robin.
Thelma always had a strong work ethic, she cleaned and washed for many people, local business office, and became a nurse at the St. Joseph Hospital in the maternity unit seeing many babies being born. Retiring from AT&T, also known as Lucent and Agere Technologies.
After many years, Thelma met the Love of her life, Mr. Waldow Dickey, they were married for 30 years.
Thelma served on the Usher Ministry, Missionary Ministry, Obituary Committee, and became one of the MOTHERS of the church. Her LOVE of life and warm personality were felt by all those she knew. She will always be remembered by her smile and her willingness to help others. She will be sadly missed!

Thelma is predeceased by her Mother, Father, Grandparents, Husbands Jessie and Waldo, sons Jessie and Robert, daughter Carol Harvey, son-in-law Gregory H. Fletcher Sr., grandsons Bernard and Justin Buchanon, brother Robert Ernest Jackson, sisters Annie Kate Seay, Virginia Bailey, and Christine Giddens.
A visitation for Thelma will be held Saturday, July 2, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church, 436 S. 7th St., Reading, PA 19602. A a celebration of life service will occur Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 10:00 AM, 436 S. 7th St., Reading, PA 19602. A burial will occur at Forest Hills Memorial Park.
