He went to Mount Penn High School where his passion for basketball began. In 1958 Bob graduated from Lafayette College with a degree in engineering and was drafted by The Cincinnati Royals of the NBA. He continued to play and coach basketball for six years in the Eastern League for The Allentown Jets while accepting a position in engineering at Western Electric. Subsequently, Bob was inducted to the Lafayette Hall of Fame in 1985, as well as the Berks County Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016. Although Bob had achieved many honors in basketball, he cherished his roles as a loving husband to his wife Sally and devoted father to his three children. Bob was greatly loved by his family, and adored by many for his gentle, kind spirit. In his later years, he enjoyed to golf and go fishing.
Bob is survived by his three children: Robert Mantz Jr. (Ann), Susan Kunkel (Jerry), Joni Mirdamadi; his sister Judy Ewald; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
