Peter F. Cianci, 93, of Reading, PA, passed away on December 17, 2018 at Phoebe Berks Health Care Center. Peter was born on January 28, 1925 and lived his entire life in his beloved City of Reading. He was the son of the late Emedio and Anna (Castiello) Cianci. A graduate of Reading High and Albright College, Peter was proud to be educated through his formative years entirely on 13th street in Reading.
Peter graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1949 and was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar in 1950. In 1964 he joined the Reading law firm that would become Delong, Dry, Cianci & Beltzner. Peter, a well-respected lawyer, practiced law into his 80’s and also served the City of Reading as an Assistant Solicitor for many years. He was a former Assistant District Attorney. In 1986 he served as President of the Berks County Bar Association.
An avid walker, Peter took daily walks to the Pagoda from his home on Hill Road and could often be seen walking to his office on Walnut Street.
A life-long member of Holy Rosary Church, Peter was a devoted and faithful Catholic, attending daily Mass and supporting Catholic causes. He was a founding member of the Serra Club of Reading and one of the oldest standing lodge members of Victor Emmanuel II. Peter could be seen praying the Rosary outside of Planned Parenthood to end abortion.
As a child he and his father picked up the famed baseball player Joe DeMaggio in Philadelphia to attend the annual Holy Rosary picnic in Carsonia Park.
He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Sister Ann Marie of the Trinity. He leaves behind a large extended Italian family and a legacy of charitable giving.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 237 Franklin St., Reading, PA 19602. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Internment at Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Rd., Reading, PA 19605.
