Born in Reading on August 10, 1924, he was a son of the late Matthew and Nora (Neider) Castle.
Matthew enlisted in U.S. Army in 1943 and served during WWII as Corporal in the 13th Armored Division, Patton's 3rd. He was discharged in March of 1946 and married Dorothy A. Peterson on June 22nd the same year. She passed away on January 2, 2008.
He attended the University of Baltimore and Johns Hopkins University and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science and Engineering. He was employed with Martin-Marietta in Middle River, MD for 12 years as an engineer. He later became self-employed, and created Management Consultant in Pennside and worked for 16 years until he officially retired 1989.
Matthew was a member of Nativity Lutheran Church, Reading. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #549 and Rajah Temple in Reading and the Scottish Rite in Jacksonville, FL.
Surviving is his son, Robert M. Castle and his wife, Sandra of Sinking Spring; four grandchildren: Janelle Castle, Tiffany West, Melissa Castle and Christopher Castle; seven great grandchilren: Yelixa, Michael, Yessenia, Alexandria, Aaron, Alyssa and Alani; and a niece, Linda Hinnershitz of Wernersville.
Matthew is predeceased by his parents; his wife, Dorothy A. (Peterson) Castle; a brother, Francis Castle and a sister Fern Nelis.
A funeral service will be at 10:00am on Wednesday at Theo. C. Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St., Reading with Rev. Robert Aregood officiating. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 6 to 7:00pm at the funeral home. A Masonic Service will be conducted by the Masonic Lodge #549 at the funeral home at 7:00pm on Tuesday. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 3551 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19140.
