Mary Tyson, 83, of Reading, made her transition to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Born March 12, 1938 in the small town of Opelika, Alabama she was the cherished daughter to the late Benjamin F. Johnson and Nellie (Giles) Johnson.
At a young age, Mary developed a special gift of caring for others, especially children. In 1958, she married the love of her life Kenneth Tyson Sr. and to this union 4 children were born, Kenneth Jr., Phyllis, Alan and Jennifer. The couple welcomed their 1st grandchild in 1977 and their small loving family began to grow. Her legacy of love spread much further than her children and grandchildren. Throughout her life, there were many people that sought her truly compassionate, loving and motherly nature. Most of them came to know her as a second Mom and their lives were forever changed by her acts of kindness and generosity.
Mary was a godly woman and she love the Lord. Even in times of struggle she was able to count her many blessings. Her positivity and grace were infectious. She was understanding, a great listener, loved to smile and she loved sitting on her front porch.
One of her favorite topics of conversation was her family. She truly treasured them and she was so proud of the love and care given to her in her final days by her son Alan and daughter Jennifer.
Mary's spirit will be carried on by her 4 children Kenneth Tyson Jr. and his wife Kimberley, of Butler, PA; Phyllis Lewis and her husband Dwight, of Blacksburg, VA; Alan Tyson Sr. and his partner Ella, of Reading, PA; Jennifer Tyson, of Reading, PA; 3 brothers Benjamin Johnson Jr. and his wife Jackie, Charles Johnson, Wayne Johnson, twin sister Martha Hall and sister Dorothy Morgan. Mary also leaves behind a devoted daughter-in-law Melissa Scott Everett, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren to cherish her memory.
In addition to her parents, Mary was greeted in heaven by her beloved husband Kenneth Tyson Sr., sister Mildred Carter, 2 brothers Horace Johnson and Quillis Johnson.
