Mabel Irene Kauffman 103, of Sinking Spring, formerly of Reading, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2018. Her family can only assume that she could not miss one more Valentine's Day apart from the love of her life.
Born September 11, 1914 she was the 5th of 10 children born to William and Rose Yeager in Lancaster, PA.
In her 103 years, she was witness to many events. She would tell stories of when bread was only a nickel, the mortgage was $20 and milk was delivered right to your door. If you asked her, She'd tell you that indoor plumbing was definitely the best invention of the past hundred years. Living through the Great Depression she would often mention the individuals who helped her family survive. Those tough times made her realize that family is the most important possession one needs in life.
In 1935, she married Herbert Edwin Kauffman, raising sons Gary and John, and daughter Janet (Husson). She was very proud of her children whom she devoted much of her life. Raising a son with significant handicaps, encouraging a gay son to be proud of who he was, and raising a daughter who went on to graduate nursing school, were all a testament to the devotion she had as a mother. Later in life, she was blessed with grandsons Scott Husson (Heather) and Todd Husson (Angela), and great-grandchildren Tanner, Riley, Lilah, and Lydia. All miss her infectious laughter, generosity, and unconditional love.
She was preceded in death by her husband, both sons, and all of her siblings. She is survived by her daughter Janet with whom she last resided, and her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Immanuel UCC in Shillington.
Services will be Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 2 pm in Auman's Inc Funeral Home, 390 W Neversink Rd Reiffton. Burial to follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. A viewing will be Tuesday 1-2pm in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, Mabel would want you to buy a box of Billy's candies, a scoop of ice cream, a slice of pie, a scratch off lottery ticket, or just give to your favorite charity or family in need.
