Lucy Ann Rhodes

She was born on June 30, 1936 in Henderson, NC, a daughter of the late Lewis and Cassie (Evans) Davis.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. James E. Rhodes Sr. to whom she married on June 11, 1954 and shared 58 years of marriage.

Lucy attended George Washington High School in NYC. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church, where she also served as a deaconess. She was very proud in taking many Bible classes. Lucy was a Sunday School teacher at Union Baptist Church. She was employed by Western Electric, later AT&T, and Lucent Technology in Reading.

In addition to her husband, Lucy is survived by her children: James E. Jr. and his wife, Cynthia Rhodes, of Wyomissing; Deborah L. Rhodes of Reading; Ronnie L. and his wife, Gloria Rhodes, of Tobyhanna; Michael A. Rhodes of Lebanon; and Robin L. Rhodes Carter and her husband, Ernest Carter, of Reading; 12 grandchildren; thrity-four great-grandchildren; a special family friend, Wendy, wife of Rodney Crew and family; and a host of many family and friends. Lucy was predeceased by her siblings, Mollie Love, Lenora Davis, Ulysses Davis, Margaret Davis, and Lewis Andrew Davis.

Services will be held Friday, March 1, 2013 at 12 noon in Zion Baptist Church 224 Washington St. Reading, PA 19601. Burial to follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. A viewing will be held on Friday 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the church.
