Janet Clara (Weidenhammer) Best, 74, of Reading, passed away peacefully in the home she shared with her daughter on Thursday, February 16, 2017. She was the wife of the late William Leon “Lee Lee” Best.
Born in Pottstown on July 28, 1942, Janet was a daughter of the late Chester B., Sr. and Ethel E. (Hoffman) Weidenhammer.
Janet was employed with City Hall as a cleaning person for several years with her late sister, Sharon. Prior to that, she was employed with L.E.G. Inc. which became Perfect Packing as a candy packer for 20 years.
Her favorite thing to do was watch TV or hang out on the porch. Janet was known for her Christmas cookies and everyone enjoyed them.
Janet is survived by six children: Deborah Nichlas of Shoemakersville, Cheryl Nichlas and her husband, Eugenio Pena of Reading, Robert Nichlas, Jr. and his fiancé, Deborah Giles of Reading, Harry Nichlas of Fleetwood, Mary Ann (Nichlas) Green of Reading and Steven Nichlas and his wife, Chrissy of Stouchsburg; 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild on the way.
Also surviving are four brothers, Chester Weidenhammer, Jr of Reading, James “Smokey” Weidenhammer of Reading, Kevin Weidenhammer of Exeter Twp. and Frank Weidenhammer of Blandon; a sister, Marjorie (Weidenhammer) Snyder of Reading; a sister-in-law, Brenda Best of NJ and a host of nieces and nephews.
Janet is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Lee Lee; two sisters, Betty Lou (Weidenhammer) Rahn and Sharon L. (Weidenhammer) Williams and a son-in-law, George Green.
A funeral service for Janet will be at 12pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 in Theo C. Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St., Reading, PA 19601. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 to 12pm. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Fleetwood.
