Florence Nellie Mack, 92, of Reading, PA received her angel wings on Friday, July 29, 2022. She was born March 25, 1930 and was the daughter to the late Edward and Mary Eliza (Freeman) Branford and the youngest of six. She was raised in Birdsboro, PA and graduated from Birdsboro Senior High. After graduation, she moved to Reading, PA because of her great love for children, she had a career in early childhood education. For 38 years, she was a certified teacher for the Head Start Program in the Reading School District.After retiring, she continued to share this love by having a daycare in her home for 5 years. Not ready to sit down and do nothing, she became a Foster Grandmother for the Office of Aging. Mack- Mack as she was so lovingly called by her many children touched many lives. Children and sometimes parents would come up to her at places and remind her that she had them in Head Start.
Florence accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Birdsboro, PA and was a member for 50 years. Florence was active in many auxiliaries; Usher Board, Senior Choir, Missionary, and Pastor's Aid. In 1998, she joined the Zion Baptist Church, and was a member of the Missionary. In 2010, she moved to Charlotte, NC and became a member of the Mount Moriah Primitive Baptist Church under the pastorage of Elder Sidney Phillips. Due to medical problems, she returned to Reading, PA in 2015 and joined Zion Baptist Church.
Cooking, shopping, reading and traveling were some of her favorite things to do. Peach cobbler was her favorite food to make. She was married to the late Jackie Mack for 36 years.
She leaves to cherish fond memories, 3 daughters; Deborah E. (Larry) Wilderson, Theresa M. Jackson, of Long Beach, CA, Jeanelle Woodard, of Charlotte, NC; step-daughter, Deborah Egzhiabier; 2 sons, Gregory A. Jackson, of Reading, PA, Steven M. Jackson, of Los Angeles, CA; step-son, Jackie Mack; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by 4 sisters, Pearl Donaldson, Earthleen Stinson, Lula Bea Blany, Mary Jackson; 3 brothers, John Branford, James Branford, and Nathan Branford and a son Raymond E. Jackson.
A viewing for Florence will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2022 from 10AM to 11 AM at Zion Baptist Church, 224 Washington St., Reading. Homegoing service will promptly commence in church at 11AM, with Rev. Jerry Jones officiating. Graveside committal will immediately follow at Berks County Memorial Gardens, 201 Evansville Rd., Fleetwood.
