Dexter's spirit will be carried on by his wife, Jean A. (Leonard) Roberts (the couple married in 1969 and shared many happy years together); his son Michael L. Roberts, daughter-in-law Elena, and grandsons Jacob and Henry, all of Nebraska. He also leaves behind his 2 sisters Shirley Propper and her companion Paul Cholak;and Mary Heiser; and his 3 nieces Jessica, Rachel and Brooke Heiser.
Dexter spent his early years in Contoocook, NH and attended Hopkinton Public Schools, graduating in 1965. In the fall of 1966, Dexter began his studies at the New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI). However, in June 1967, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the U.S. Navy Reserves. Later that year, he withdrew from NHTI to enter active duty in the Navy, where he served honorably until early 1970. Upon returning to civilian life, Dexter completed his studies at NHTI, earning an Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, class of 1971.
Dexter's career as an Electrical Engineering Technician began with New England Power in Providence, RI, where he worked from 1971 until 1977. During this time, he continued his education as a night student at Northeastern University in Boston, MA, earning his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in June 1977. His commitment to both his career and education was a testament to his hardworking and industrious nature.
In the fall of 1977, Dexter accepted a position with an engineering firm in Reading, PA, prompting a move for his young family to the area. It was here that Dexter truly put down roots, purchasing a parcel of land in Green Hills, PA, and embarking on a project close to his heart: building a log cabin from scratch alongside his father. This cabin, completed in 1980, would become his cherished lifelong home.
Dexter continued to serve his country through the Navy Reserves and earned his commission as a naval officer in the Civil Engineer Corps in 1979, ultimately reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He retired from the Navy Reserves in 1994, marking the end of a distinguished military career.
Throughout the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s, Dexter worked full-time as an engineer for several area companies, including Gilbert Commonwealth and Parsons Power. In 2008, he transitioned to part-time work, fully retiring in 2013.
A proud veteran, Dexter was an active member of American Legion Post 626 and a lifetime member of the Naval Reserve Association and the Association of the United States Navy, and a member of the Toastmasters Club. Outside of his professional life, Dexter enjoyed golfing and going scuba diving.
Dexter will be remembered not only for his industrious spirit but also for his integrity, and unwavering dedication. He will be missed by all blessed enough to have known him.
A celebration of Dexter's life will be scheduled at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and the remarkable life he lived.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Auman's Inc. Funeral Home, Reiffton.
