Born in Reading on November 11, 1928, Chet was a son of the late Chester, Sr. and Volley H. (Fickmyer) Berg. He attended Reading High School but left to heed his countries call in 1946 to serve in US Navy during WWII.
When Chet returned stateside he was employed with his father at Berk's Auto Ignition in Reading. Later he worked for Bill Sweitzer Construction in Reading for five years before working and retire from Textile Chemical Co. in Leesport as a truck driver for 37 years. He was a very hardworking man.
Chet's passion was anything that had to do with cars! He liked to work on them, purchase them, watch them race and go to car shows. He had a keen eye for antique cars. He was a member of the Packard Car Club, Mid-Atlantic Branch and the Antique Automobile Club of America, Pottstown Region.
In addition to his loving wife, Sylvia, Chet is survived by four children: Donna L. (Berg) Dietz and her husband, Charlie of Fairfax, VA, Carl "Pat" P. Berg of Sinking Spring, Sallie Jo (Berg) Smith of Wernersville and Valerie A. (DeLong) Emore and her husband, Chris of Robesonia; 12 grandchildren: Carter Dietz, Connor Dietz, Zach Berg, JD Berg, BreAnna (Berg) Miller, Jeremy Smith, Evan Smith, Erin Smith, Nicole Lischak, Naomi Lischak, Dylan Emore and Jessica (Emore) Adams and three great grandsons: Cole J. Lukach , Niccolo Antonio Fonte and Connor I. Miller
Chet is predeceased by his brother: Thomas Berg.
Services for Chet will be Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 1pm in Theo C. Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St., Reading, PA 19601. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park where full military honor will be accorded. A viewing will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 11 to 1pm.
