Charlotte Anderson Meng passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024, at the age of 94 at Arcadia at Limerick Pointe Retirement Community. Charlotte is predeceased by George Jefferson Meng, her loving husband of 66 years. Charlotte and George raised their family together in Norristown, PA and spent their summers in Ocean City, NJ where they ran a small family business, Beachside Snacks, for 37 years. They spent their later years at the Shannondell retirement community in Lower Providence Township in the winters and at their home in Ocean City, NJ in the summers, surrounded by family and life-long friends.
Charlotte is survived by her three children, Jon (Carol) of Colorado, Bob (Connie) of New Jersey and Betsy (Scott) of Pennsylvania; 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, and will be remembered for her love of family. She will be remembered for stacking gifts floor-to-ceiling and singing “Happy Birthday, Baby Jesus” before piling into cars for the Christmas Eve service at Christ Church, UCC of Norristown, PA. She will be remembered for proudly wearing all of the ribbons her grandchildren won for their decorated bicycles at the 4th of July parade in Ocean City, NJ, sitting on her stool at Beachside doling out candy and ice cream, and asking everyone in the family how many ears of corn they want for dinner.
Charlotte was passionate about education and served as a teacher and principal at the Burnside, Paul V. Fly, and Marshall Street elementary schools in the Norristown school district for 38 years. After retiring, Charlotte was elected to the Norristown Area School Board serving 11 years as a member, Vice President, and President.
Charlotte is a graduate of Pottstown High School, class of 1948; University of Pennsylvania, class of 1952 with a B.S. in education; Villanova University, class of 1971 with a M.A. in Educational Administration; and University of Pennsylvania with a Superintendent's Letter of Eligibility,1980. Charlotte developed her leadership abilities while an undergraduate at Penn serving as sophomore class president, co-captain of varsity field hockey, captain of varsity softball and president of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She was also elected to Campus Committee, a sophomore service organization, Sphinx and Key, a junior honor society, Athlon, an athletic honor society, and Pi Lambda Theta, National Education Honor Society. These various activities led to receiving the Father's Trophy in her senior year for scholarship, leadership, and service.
A graveside committal service for Charlotte will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. Attendees are kindly requested to arrive at the cemetery entrance by 10:45 AM to allow ample time to gather and proceed to the graveside together.
