George grew up in Jackson, MS and graduated from Central High School in 1950. In 1955 he received a Law degree from the Jackson School of Law. George was a member of the Mississippi Bar Association for over 50 years. George’s father was a cofounder of Deposit Guaranty National Bank where George served as a Trust Attorney upon graduation from Law School.
George married Celia Wood on March 8, 1956, and later moved to Mississippi Springs Farm in Raymond, MS. George and Celia are members of Raymond Presbyterian Church. Together they enjoyed many years of traveling. George was an avid pilot from an early age, and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. In addition to flying, he also enjoyed deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, and sailing, and he was a loving and devoted father and grandfather.
George was preceded in death by his son George “Buddy” Ellis Shaw, III, his father George Ellis Shaw, Sr., his mother Eliza Bottomley Shaw, his sister Francis Shaw Ferguson, and his brother Harry Thomas Shaw.
George is survived by his wife Celia Wood Shaw, his daughter Sandra Shaw Pope, his son-in-law Robert Ray Pope, his grandchildren Crystal Pope Adams and Jon Jay Pope, and his great grandson Brady Ellis Adams.
A memorial service will be held at Raymond Presbyterian Church, Raymond, MS at eleven o’clock Thursday, February 14, 2013. A visitation will be held 10 AM Thursday at the church. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Cemetery.
