He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Ann (Baber) Pletzer, son David (Arden) Pletzer of Indiana, daughter Susan (Patrick) Wemmer of Wadsworth, grandchildren Scott, Allison and Kain Pletzer; Celeste (John) Rock, Ryan Wemmer and great grandson Tysen Rock; brother Robert (Carole) Pletzer and sister Barbara (Don) Butch, nieces, nephews and many special friends.
Bill was born May 28, 1927, in Akron, Ohio, but his family moved to Rootstown when he was an infant. He was a lifelong Rootstown resident and after graduation from Rootstown High School, Bill proudly served in the Navy during WWII. He received his undergraduate and master's degrees from KSU and Case Western Reserve. Bill enjoyed his profession as a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent. He started his vocation in Macedonia, then Silver Lake, Springfield and Hudson. Bill finished his career in Hudson as superintendent.
Bill was active in his community serving on the water board, school board, zoning board and as a member of the Selective Service System. He was an active Lion and Rotarian, and served as president of each organization.
An avid sports fan, Bill followed the Browns, Indians and Ohio State Buckeyes. Always positive, Bill would cheer “Wait 'til next year”.
Most of all, he was an exemplary father, grandfather, brother, uncle, teacher, friend and husband. Bill loved to travel, loved his country, his family and his God.
Faith, family and friends guided his life. Bill was known for his wit and great humor. His legacy was a loving family man with great integrity and respected educator. He will truly be missed by all.
Cremation has taken place, and friends will be received Friday, August 23, 2013, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. A memorial service will be celebrated by Pastor Scott Hindel at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 4022 State Route 44, Rootstown. Inurnment will follow at Homeland Cemetery with military honors provided by the US Navy and VFW Post 1055.
