Vicki was born November 15, 1952, in Ravenna, Ohio, to parents Jim and Marcy (Cahill) Horning. Vicki grew up in Randolph and was a member of St. Joseph Parish. She was the perfect example of someone who devoted her life to faith, family and friends. A constant servant to others in need, she was the embodiment of living a life in Christ. She loved music and theatre, as well as cooking and baking, but simply put, if the activity meant spending time with people she loved or improving the life of someone else, it was a joy to her.
Vicki was a life-long learner beginning her journey at Walsh University and graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ursuline College and a bachelor degree in Business Administration from Malone University. Vicki spent her entire life caring for the elderly and the sick, serving as a nurse, director and consultant for various nursing facilities. She later established her own business, Professional Nursing Consultants. Forever affecting the lives of others, she most recently served as a trainer for Med-Cert, where she ensured the growth of future nursing assistants.
Vicki was a member of St. Paul’s Parish in Akron, where she was a lector. She volunteered with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, following Christ’s call to serve the poor and the suffering. Additionally, Vicki donated her talents by baking cookies as a member of the Cookie Ministry for the church.
Most of all, Vicki was a devoted wife, and a loving mother and grandmother. She would attend every game, concert, or event that her grandchildren were involved with, which filled her with great pride and joy. If you were lucky enough to know Vicki, you could always depend on a card or thought on a birthday or special occasion in your life, as making people feel loved and special was so very important to her. She extended this love to animals, adopting senior dogs that needed someone to spoil and care for them, including Dottie, her most recent companion.
She is survived by her husband Robert Newnham, who she married March 21, 1997. Vicki is also survived by her children: Scott (Shelly) Liggett and Christine (Steve) Stroll, her grandchildren: Sydney, Gabby, and Brady Stroll, and Emeline Liggett, her step-children and grandchildren: Todd (Kim) Newnham (children T.R., Natalie, Kristen and Autumn), Lisa Newnham, Erica Newnham (children Brandon, Ashley, and Emily), her parents: Jim and Marcy Horning, her siblings: Patty (Bill – deceased) Eichler, Suzanne Livengood, Ken Horning, David (Karen) Horning, Jim (Sherry) Horning, and Julie (Jim) Vogt, along with many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family will be received Tuesday, July 5, 2022, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna.
