As a precocious child who grew up near Amsterdam, Ohio, she thought filling the family car with water meant the tank was full! It was at Amsterdam High School where she met the love of her life, Raymond W. Miller. The high school sweethearts were married on June 9, 1957 in the country church in Wolf Run. Sylvia was a true Godly woman and wife. If ever there was “A woman behind the man”, it was Sylvia. She rarely missed seeing Ray coach high school basketball while they lived in Sandusky, Ohio, Middlefield, Ohio, or the many places in between. Sylvia made many friends through her activities at church and Square Dancing. If she didn’t give friends her homemade jam as gifts, they were disappointed.
After fighting with CHF for several months from her home in Ravenna, Ohio, on January 14, 2022, this beautiful soul was called to her Heavenly home. Sylvia was blessed to be surrounded by her daughters, Lisa (Halberg), Trish (Lee), and Tina (Williams). She exchanged one last look with her husband of 64 years, as a tear fell down her cheek. She summoned the strength to kiss the man who held her heart for 72 years, sighed as only a woman whose known such deep love can do, and let Jesus take her into glory.
Oh, the welcome she must have received from her mother and father, her sisters, Nancy and Anna Marie, as well as her son-in-law Ric Williams, and many other family and friends.
Missing her are her son in laws Kevin Halberg and Donnie Lee; grandchildren Corinne (Lexi) Lindway, Christopher (Brie) Halberg, Cameron Halberg, Bobbie Sue (Tom) Gradowski, Brandie Lynn (Eric) Duke, Shawnee (Ben) Carpenter, McKenzie Whitson, and Charles Lee; great grandchildren Christian, Emily, Colton, Ivy, Zoey, Rylie, Noah, Rowan, Olivia, and Theo.
A Celebration of Life will be held May 1, 2022.
Please make donations in Sylvia’s name to The Hospice of the Western Reserve.
