He was born May 3, 1933, in Tyner, Kentucky, a son of the late James and Gretcheon (Branson) Vickers. Vic retired from the Chrysler plant in Twinsburg and was a member of the Maulden Baptist Church. He served his country as a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War. Silas was a member of Masonic Unity Lodge 12 and enjoyed fishing and gardening. Vic’s love of Kentucky and bluegrass music was only surpassed by his love for his family.
Surviving family members include his children: James Vickers of Ravenna, Kay Lynn (James) Knott of Shallotte, NC, Joe (Julie) Vickers of Kent, and Kathy Delorenzi of Vacaville, CA; grandchildren: Nicole, Sara, John, Robbie, Amy, and Malachi; as well as his 3 great-grandchildren, and brothers Grant, Paul, and Michael, and his sister Agnes. In addition to his parents, Silas was preceded in death by his sister Dovie and his brother Turner.
Friends will be received Thursday, June 7, 2012, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, with funeral services immediately following at 6:00 PM. Interment will take place at the Old Vickers Cemetery in Tyner, Kentucky.
