He was born April 22, 1959, in Ravenna, Ohio, to parents Orley B. and Dana Marie (McCumbers) Cottrell. Sam was a truck driver, most recently working for Compass Transport LLC in Mantua.
In his earlier years, Sam enjoyed riding motorcycles. He was an avid outdoorsman, especially fishing, hunting, or mowing his lawn. Most of all, Sam loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren trick-or-treating and helping with Easter egg hunts.
Sam is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years Pam Cottrell, son Jason (Jaclyn) Cottrell, daughter Samantha (Eric Abt) Kania, grandchildren: Leah, Miranda, and Vanessa Cottrell and Cassandra Abt. Sam is also survived by his sisters Moneda Greathouse and Viola Needham, along with many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Dennis, Leonard, Pete, and Buck, his sisters: Margaret, Nora, Debbie, and Karen, and his grandson Samuel Michael Cottrell.
Friends and family will be received Friday, May 31, 2019, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Graveside services will be officiated by Terry Davis on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Cottrell Greathouse Cemetery, 10224 Honey Rd., Mineral City.
