He was born September 4, 1930, in Canton, Ohio, to parents Elijah and Victoria (Webb) Meers. Robert graduated from Canton South High School in 1948 and from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, in 1964.
Robert has been a resident of Ravenna since 1970. He was a correctional officer and retired from the Portage County Adult Probation Office in 1992. He was also an ordained minister by Pastor Harold Henniger at the Canton Baptist Temple. Robert was the founding Pastor of First Baptist Church in Mantua. He truly enjoyed spreading God’s ministry through missionary work, gospel singing, and as a musician.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife Lois Marie (Doepker) Meers, who he married May 30, 1952. He is also survived by his children: Vickie (Charlie) Bullen, Bobby (Cindy) Meers, and Becky Long, his grandchildren: Jason (Colleen) Bullen, Brittany (Stephen) Rassel, Nicole Long, Jeffrey (Lisa) Long, Ryan (Shelby) Meers, and Sean (Cally) Meers, as well as his 7 great-grandchildren, his brother Bill (Kathy) Meers, along with several nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ethel Boyd, his brother Floyd Meers, and his son-in-law Don Long.
