He learned a strong work ethic as a youngster trapping and skinning pelts in the local waterways of Atwater, Ohio. Hurrying from trapping to catch the school bus, the custodian nicknamed him “Mudsocks”! Ray’s quick wit kept his schoolmates laughing and together they pulled off many boyhood and harmless pranks. As a young man, his dad helped him purchase a dozer, which launched him eventually into RH Murdock Enterprises.
After high school, Ray married his high school sweetheart Dolores Jean Rickard, the love of his life, on April 27, 1957. Ray had enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserves and served eight years on call and was honorably discharged in 1963. Ray and Dolores lived nearly 60 years of devoted love and companionship. Together they enjoyed many years of waterskiing, camping, boating and snow skiing. They had been faithful members of the Worldwide and United Church of God, attending every annual church convention throughout the country. His dedication to honest and hard work enabled him the kind of reputation by which he never lacked worked.
After losing his life mate, he tried to find comfort in serving his church and after over a year of loneliness, he married Ruth Phillips, a widow with eight grown children.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Dolores, and his brothers Gene and Orville.
Ray is survived by his second wife, Ruth Ann and many real and adopted nieces, nephews and many, many beloved friends & brethren.
