Pauline June (Unger) Horn, age 78, of Salem, Ohio, passed away quietly on April 5, 2025, in Ravenna, Ohio, after a long illness.
Born on January 4, 1947, in Atwater, Ohio, Pauline lived a life of compassion, dedication, and unwavering strength. Pauline graduated from Atwater High School in the class of 1965. After graduating from Bohecker’s Business College in Ravenna, Ohio. Pauline began her career at the BF Goodrich Corporation.
Over the years, she touched many lives through her work as an aide at Reilly Elementary School in Salem, Ohio and as a friendly face behind the counter at Love’s Pastry and Dunkin’ Donuts. In her later years, she became a well-loved greeter at Walmart in Salem, Ohio, where her warm smile and kind demeanor left a lasting impression on countless customers.
Pauline was deeply committed to her community and served as an active member of the Salem Ohio Crime Watch during the late 1980s and early 1990s. She was also known for her love of animals, gardening, and her joy in reading. A fan of the classic television series Dark Shadows, often finding comfort in its timeless charm. For the last five years of her life, Pauline was a cherished resident of the Alpine House of Ravenna, where she was well liked and cared for by both staff and fellow residents.
She is survived by her loving son, Kenneth Horn (Deborah) of Ravenna, OH, and her sister, Mary Harrison of Randolph, OH, and great-nephew Nicholas Johnson (Allyson) of Bedford, OH.
Pauline was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Gary Harrison.
Pauline will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering dedication to her family and community, and the kindness she shared with everyone she met. She will be deeply missed.
A private family service will be held in her memory. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family kindly requests that donations be made to One of a Kind Pet Rescue in Akron, Ohio, in honor of Pauline’s love for animals.
