Martin was born January 27, 1958 in Akron, Ohio, a son of the late Paul and Leola (Harper) Der. He worked for the B & O Railroad Company and Geauga Lake amusement park for numerous years and retired from Rootstown Local Schools as maintenance personal. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association of America and was a proud graduate of Southeast High School in Palmyra, Ohio with the class of 1976.
Martin greatly enjoyed farming, his pets, his cows, the races, classic trucks and working on his farm equipment.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen "Kathy" (Freeland) Der, his step children Derek and Dawn Freeland and Penny (Freeland) Johnson. He also leaves his grandchildren Whitley and Kaylyn Freeland, Kenneth Ish Jr "KJ" and Ellie and Auri Johnson, as well as his siblings Katie Takaki, Linda Severt , Steve Der and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother John Der and stepson Ryan Freeland.
In accordance with Martin's wishes, he will be cremated upon a private viewing for the family at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral home in Ravenna. There will be a celebration of life to follow the private viewing at Martin and Kathy's farm. Please contact Kathy Der for more information.
