Born at home in Streetsboro, Ohio on March 20, 1919, to Wallace Newton Stanton and Florence Adella (Weed) Stanton, she lived most of her life in Portage County.
Descended from pioneer families in Portage, Geauga, and Gallia Counties in Ohio, her family roots in America lay for the most part in early colonial New England, and to a lesser extent in colonial Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. She was proud of her family history, and equally proud of her immediate family.
She lived a life of faith in her Lord Jesus Christ, and believed in the promise of the Resurrection. Indeed, she was the living embodiment of Proverbs 31, which describes the woman of noble character. Friendly and cheerful, she never said an unkind word of anyone, and was beloved by all. Most importantly, she was devoted to her family.
She was married 58 years to Carl Leslie Heritage, who died on June 9, 1999. An older brother Frank Stanton and older sister Esther (Stanton) Rose preceded her in death, as well as a younger sister Mary Caroline Stanton, who died in infancy.
Five children survive her: Joyce (Heritage) Krupansky [Ed] of Ft. Worth, TX; Col. Melvin Heritage [Barbara] of Leland, NC; Dale Heritage [Elaine] of Shalersville, OH; Dennis Heritage of Mentor, OH; and Ken Heritage [Susan] of Deputy, IN. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
