She was born July 12, 1941, in New Philadelphia, Ohio, a daughter of the late Thomas Alvin and Margaret Elizabeth (Ball) Morris. Karen graduated from Ravenna High School and Bohecker Business College. She worked at Morris’ Busy Corner, and as a bookkeeper for Harcourt and the First United Methodist Church, all in Ravenna.
Karen had a deep love for music. She was a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Choir and also a longtime member of the Ravenna Community Choir. She was a volunteer for the Ravenna Balloon-A-Fair and helped create the children’s parade. Family was always the focal point in Karen’s life. She was very proud to be involved in her grandchildren’s lives.
Karen is survived by her beloved husband David T. McKay, daughters: Juli (Bernie) Nagel and Jenny (Dave) Turner both of Ravenna, and step-daughter Lynn (Dave) Hess of Streetsboro. She is also survived by her sisters: Charlotte (Laverne) Riggenbach of Rootstown, Sylvia (Jerry) Kelley of Fort Myers, FL, Marcia Savage of Ravenna, and Mary (David) DeReamer of Peoria, AZ; sisters-in-law: Patricia (Roland) Allen of Holiday, UT and Sarah Morris of New Philadelphia; brother-in-law Daniel McKay of Torrence, CA; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Nana’s memory will also be cherished by her grandchildren: Rian Nagel, Jessica Nagel, Joshua “Bub” Turner, Adam Turner, Peighton Turner, Jessica Hess, and Jaclynn Hess.
In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her brothers Leonard and William Morris, mother and father-in-law Julian and Dorothy McKay, and sister-in-law Tammy McKay.
Cremation has taken place, and friends will be received Saturday, May 18, 2013, from 10:00 AM until the 12:00 PM memorial service officiated by Pastor Elizabeth Hazelton at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Final resting place will be Maple Grove Cemetery on a later date.
