Born on January 13th, 1944, in Sylacauga, Alabama. He was the Son of William Smith and Thelma (McElrath) Smith Christian. When Joseph was a child, they moved to Youngstown, Ohio, where Joseph attended Todd Elementary School and East High School. Joseph married the late Mary Louise Jenkins, and they raised 7 children. He became a welder by trade and worked various jobs.
His most prominent job position was when he worked as a Welder and Forman at the old Youngstown Steel Door. Joseph truly enjoyed his job, and he hated to miss a day of work. His favorite hobby was working on cars. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes Fan and Cleveland Browns Fan (When They Won). He really enjoyed going fishing. He was true to Fashion and really loved to be dressed up during almost any occasion.
Although well known for his tough exterior, he was truly a Loving and Caring Man who enjoyed the company of Good People. He was also an animal lover, especially dogs. Joseph loved and truly cared for his entire family and everyone who was considered to be a friend.
He leaves behind his longstanding significant other, Misty Saunders, 5 Sons Joseph W. (Darlene) Smith Jr., William Smith, Levensky Smith, Charles E. (Tawanda) Smith, Randell' (Jessica) Smith, and loving stepson Yut. Surviving also are a host of loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and 4 surviving siblings brother Larry (Barbara) Christian, and three sisters Carmen "Diane" Brown, Jimmy McClain, and Shirley Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents and former wife, son Dwayne Smith, stepdaughter Lucinda Jenkins, two brothers Gary Christian, Leon "Sonny" Christian, and six sisters Betty Christian, Carolyn Brewer, Peggy Johnson, LaCressa " BeBop" Christian, Jeanette Williams, and Lois Crosby.
He Will Be Loved and Missed by us all.
