He was born on the family farm in Randolph, Ohio, on May 28, 1925, to parents Charles and Elva (Kline) Wise. John worked as a dairy farmer with his brother William until retiring in the 1970’s. He later worked for the Paul G. Mills dealership until they closed in the 1980’s. John was a member of St. Joseph Parish for all of his life, and also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
John was an honorary member of the Portage County Randolph Fair Board for over 30 years. He also served as a Fair Board director in charge of the campground for many years. In his retirement, John loved crafting wooden toys, doll houses, tractors, and baskets, which he donated to various fundraisers. Above all, John was a devoted husband and family man.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Rita May Kline Wise on August 22, 2013. John was also preceded in death by his parents, his sister Pauline Strahler, his brothers: Ernest, William, Fr. Carl CPPS, Joseph, and James Wise, his daughter Carol Kerr, sons Larry and Dale Kline, and grandson Christopher Kline.
John is survived by his children: Doris (Andy) Hughart of Michigan, Bruce Kline of Randolph, and Keith (Debbie) Kline of Florida; as well as 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received Monday, December 19, 2016, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at St. Joseph Church, 2643 Waterloo Rd., Randolph. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Thomas Acker S.J. at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at St. Joseph Church. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
