He was born December 11, 1949, in Akron, Ohio, to parents Marion Herman and Martha “Jackie” (Leedom) Watson. John graduated from Field High School and then joined the US Army. He proudly served in the 101st Airborne and was a highly decorated combat medic during the Vietnam War.
John retired with Aurora Plastics and was a certified “Jack-of-all-Trades.” He was always working, even in retirement and willing to lend a helping hand. John could often be found helping at the Deerfield Marketplace.
John was more loving, more kind, and more caring to those he loved. He cherished his family and was a guiding light for all.
John loved the Lord and was also an active member of Community Baptist Temple in Akron. He served as an usher and church trustee.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his infant son John Isaac Watson, his brother David H. Watson, and his brother-in-law Jimmy Ratliff.
John is survived by his siblings Shirley (Bob) Yeargin, Thomas Earl (Robin Carol) Watson, Deborah Ratliff, and Carol Watson his sister-in-law, along with generations of loving nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received Thursday, October 12, 2023, from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM with funeral services officiated by Pastor Mark O’Donnell at 12:00 PM at Community Baptist Temple. Interment will take place with full military honors on Monday, October 16, 2023, at 12:15 PM at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd, Seville, OH 44273.
