John was born on April 1, 1936, in Ravenna, Ohio to Roger and Dorothy Pittman (nee Roberts).
Before marrying his loving wife, Bonnie (nee Chambers), John attended the Ravenna Township High School where he competed and excelled at football, track and boxing. After serving in the United States Army, John returned home and worked with his father as a heavy machine operator. This experience allowed John to start his own excavating business. As a successful businessman, John later assumed the ownership of his family’s business, Tucaway Lake Campground, which he operated with his children until his passing. Prior to the loss of his wife of sixty-three years, Bonnie and John worked together to make Tucaway Lake Campground a thriving enterprise.
Though John was a successful businessman, all who knew him understood that his true passion was farming. Until his short illness, John continued to tend his herd of beef cattle daily.
John is survived by his children, Susan Pittman, Laurie J. Pittman, Jamie Fletcher (Keith), John Pittman (Vicki), Roger Pittman (Gail), as well as, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his doting wife, Bonnie, and his sisters, Joann Cunningham and Sarah Keattes.
A graveside service will be officiated by Pastor Bob Burgess at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna, Ohio on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 2:00 PM. The family will be there to welcome friends and relatives.
