Born Dec. 16, 1933 in Wales, he was proud of his British ancestry. He attended Oriel College at Oxford University where he earned B.A. and M.A. degrees in French. He also played on the college Rugby team. He completed his Doctorate degree at the University of Colorado.
He, Dr. Michael Rogers and Jack Bennett were avid fishermen. John enjoyed smoking his pipe and eating breakfast out every morning. He enjoyed darts, rugby and soccer. He enjoyed classical music, choral works and the Beatles. Reading mysteries and history and traveling to Britain and Europe were his passions.
Dr. Kane co-authored with Dr. Joseph Baird the book Rossingol an Edition and Translation. It was the first English translation of a 15th century French manuscript.
He was predeceased by parents, John and Doris M. Kane, sister and brother-in-law Jean and Glyndwr Harley, all of Newport, S. Wales.
He will be greatly missed by daughter Hilary J. Kane and her husband Paul Onuska of Mantua along with cherished grandsons, Nicholas and Jonah Onuska. Also son Timothy Kane and wife Kate Peake of S. Euclid and Carole J. Kane of Kent.
A family waterside memorial will be held.
