Jerry Gene Steiner, age 75 of Randolph, passed away December 4, 2015, at Kent Health Care Center after a lengthy illness surrounded by his children and grandchildren, all of whom adored him and loved him dearly.
He was born April 18, 1940, in Akron, Ohio, to his parents Tom and Irene Steiner. Jerry has two siblings, Tom (Paula) Steiner and Marie (Mark) Spickard both of Hartville.
He grew up with his family in New Baltimore and Springfield. Jerry graduated from Springfield High School. He was a heavy equipment operator most of his life. He operated Jerry Steiner Excavating in Randolph and also worked out of the Operator’s Union Local 18. He was very skilled with any machine that needed run. His meticulous work with the bulldozer especially was so noted that he would be called in to jobs just to do the backfill and finish grade work. He also drove truck including dump truck and hauling freight.
He was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was a faithful servant of Jehovah God to the end. He loved to speak about the bible and of the hope of the new system. No matter how poorly he felt, or how faded his memory and cognizance seemed to be, when the subject of the bible teachings was spoken about or read to him, he reacted and knew exactly what was being said. Some of his last words were about God’s Kingdom.
He was married to his wife Shirley and they lived in Randolph. They had sons Kevin (Beverly) of Randolph, Nathan (deceased 1969), Jonathan (Denna) of Marlboro, Joshua of Akron, Matthew (Chrissy) of Randolph, and Micah of Akron. Daughters Amy (Jim) Sweeney and Rachel (Val) Gofer both of Beavercreek Township. He also has a step-daughter Belinda (Rick) McClain of Munroe Falls, step-sons Steven Boyett and Jeff Boyett, 18 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his son Nathan.
Friends will be received Tuesday, December 8, 2015, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Randolph.
