Ira Thomas "Tommie" Boyd, Jr., age 42, of Kent passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014. He was born June 21, 1971, in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Ira T. Boyd, Sr. and Frances M. (McKinney) Washington.
Mr. Boyd had been employed with Omega Protrusions in Aurora and Step Two in Streetsboro.
Ira was know as "Tommy" or "Bear" to family and friends. Those who did not know him would have been threatened by his appearance, but once you got to know him, you realized that he was a gentle giant. He was soft spoken with a deep voice that could melt your heart. Ira was a fighter, he never quit and he never gave up. He was a hard worker and a good provider to his family. His passion was his artwork. He enjoyed creating and drawing characters for comic books, writing short stories and children's books. Though they remain unpublished, it was his way of securing a future for his four children. He loved his kids and they loved him, but his health prevented him from being more involved with them.
Survivors include his Mother and Step-father: Frances and Marvin Washington of Arizona, Father: Ira T. Boyd, Sr. of Maryland, Children: Ira X. Boyd of Kent, Ka-le’ann A. Boyd of Kent, Nichole Boyd and Brianna Boyd, both of Ravenna. Sisters: Cheryl (Lee) Williams of Baltimore, Md., Melissa and Rhonda Boyd, both of Ravenna and Danielle Boyd of Akron, Brother: David Boyd of Akron, Brother-in-law: Albert Sorey of Kent and Godbrother: Deondreay Brandon of Baltimore, Md. Also surviving is Fiancé: Cheri Lindeman and step-daughter: Kacie Lindeman of Kent, and Former wives: Tina Goodwin of Kent and Vicki Boyd of Ravenna. He also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law: Carlos Brown.
Cremation has taken place. A private service will be held for family.
