Gwendolyn M. Girt

She was born September 6, 1925, in Canton, Ohio, to parents James and Elsie (Evans) Auld. In addition to her parents, Gwen was preceded in death by her husband Harold D. Girt, her infant son Donald William Girt, her sister Evelyn Leslie, and her brothers James and William Auld.

Gwen is survived by her children: Dale (Aggie), Gary (Sue Ann), Ray (Eloise), and Sandy (Tom) Ference, as well as her grandchildren: Donald (Ashley) and Sarah (Scott) Tremmel, and her great-grandchildren: Chloie, Reese, Eden, Abigail, Blake, and Cora, along with many loving nieces and nephews.

Gwen began her working career with the Canton Board of Education and later retired from the Ravenna School District in 1991. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Ravenna, where she was a member of the Bell Choir. Gwen also worshiped at St. Paul’s EUB in Canton.

Gwen was proud of her Scottish heritage and a member of CASHA – Canton Akron Scottish Heritage Association. She enjoyed golfing and was a member of several women’s golf leagues. Gwen cherished the time she spent with family and friends, especially around the holidays.

Friends and family will be received Friday, October 12, 2018, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Derek Hickman on Saturday at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 263 S Prospect St., Ravenna. Interment will take place at 12:00 PM at Sunset Hills Burial Park in Canton.
