Gary was born in Ravenna, Ohio on April 3, 1944 to parents Herman and Clara (Wymer) Knapp.
Gary was a veteran of the U.S. Army and enjoyed a 47-year career as a machinist at Gougler Industries. He had attended Immaculate Conception Church and enjoyed his association with the Ravenna American Legion.
In his spare time, he enjoyed camping with his wife, watching sports, especially Cleveland Browns games and was a big NASCAR fan, attending races with his wife in Bristol, Tennessee.
Gary is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce (Williams) Knapp and children: Roger (Cheryl Young) Boltz, Tammy (John) Bestvina, Jerry (Dawn) Knapp and Terry (Robin Bevington) Knapp. Surviving also are grandchildren Michael (Ellie) Boltz, Heather Knapp, Drake Knapp, Ashley Simini, and 6 great-grandchildren. Left also to cherish his memory are sisters-in-law Jessie (David) Holsinger, Penny (Dick) Craig, Gaye (Joe) Hayden, Jean Knapp, and brothers-in-law Ron (Renee Eilers) Williams and Dwayne Cannon.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, brothers George and Allen Knapp and sister Barbara Cannon.
Private family funeral services are planned and interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery.
