Evelyn Wiley went Home December 27, 2013. She was born June 25, 1927, to the late Arthur and Hazel Ashbaugh, in Green, Ohio. She spent most of her early years in the Mantua area; she moved to Brady Lake as a young woman and lived there the rest of her life.
Evelyn worked as a cook at the Rainbow Restaurant and then at Chicken Manor Restaurant. Later, she was employed at Kent State University in the bakery department as a baker. Finally, she worked as a housekeeper at Robinson Memorial Hospital, retiring from there in 1990. Eventually, she went back to work in the nursery at Twin Star Bowling Lanes, a position that she enjoyed immensely.
She was a faithful member of the Ravenna Church of Christ for nearly sixty years and considered the congregation there as a second family. She taught Sunday School for many years and developed many very long-lasting friendships.
Evelyn was devoted to her family and took special pleasure in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. She attended water aerobics three times a week at the Roosevelt pool for many years.
She was fortunate enough to have traveled with friends and family; she made two trips to Germany, one to the Bahamas, she went on a cruise, and made domestic trips to Florida, Wisconsin, Arizona, Tennessee, Connecticut, West Virginia, Georgia, and several to Myrtle Beach and the Outer Banks.
Evelyn is survived by her children: John (Jan) Wiley, Connie (Kent) Pasko, Kathi Tennant, Charlie Wiley, and Russ (Doreen) Wiley; her grandchildren: Lisa (Mark Pixley) Mehlmann, Chris Mehlmann, Kenny (Mae) Mehlmann, Vincent (Terri) Tennant, Jessica (Eliot) Easterling, Travis (Ashley) Wiley, Devin Wiley, Savannah Wiley; and her great grandchildren: Kayley Mehlmann, Kelly Mehlmann, John Mehlmann, Christian Mehlmann, Andy Pixley, Stephanie Pixley, Nahla Wiley,and Ethan Easterling. She is also survived by special friends Annette Marquardt, Dawn Zickefoose, Ralph Peugh, Maxine Greer, and her sister in law and dear friend, Mary Tennant.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Wiley, a grandson Jimmy Wiley, her sisters Jean Rodhe and Carol Bowen, a brother Calvin Ashbaugh, and her special friend and companion, Ralph Boyles.
Friends will be received at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., on Friday, January 3, 2014, from 11:00 AM until the 12:00 PM funeral service officiated by Minister Terry Smith. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Park.
