I lost my friend Gene Rex on Sunday. Attending his funeral was harder than I thought it would be, as I realized all the things I would miss about him. He was 57 years old.  I saw him 12/26 and we spent a nice couple hours talking and telling stories from an amazing past. Gene was a bright, deep and intriguing person who introduced me early on to his unique zest for life. I will miss him. 
I will always treasure the weekend we took off to go to an OSU game in 2009. While you are thinking of it, please do not miss an opportunity to do something for a friend while you still can. You will never regret it...So long, Kugart...

To the Rex Family, we all know what a nice man he was.  He was so kind with his time and as a client, I really appreciated that.  He,along with his partner Debbie, would go out of their way to make you feel that you were important.  Gene got me involved with being a player of investing when he showed up at the accounting firm I worked at in Ravenna.  If I hadn't seen with my own eyes the benefits he was providing out tax clients, I might never had started the roller coaster ride of investing.  He was great to deal with and I never entertained having another broker to be involved with.  I am saddened to have him leave us at such young age, but I know we all cherish knowing him and what he added to our lives.  God bless him and thanks, as Debbie said, for being you.

Gene, you brought me into your office right out of high school (thanks to Hank, who allowed me to job shadow my senior year), and introduced me into this industry and shaped my real-life education through college.  I look back, and appreciate all of the life lessons you taught me.  We last spoke about a year ago, and I still go back to how happy I was to see you and Debbi and that we had the opportunity to catch up.  I also will never forget the Buckeye Games where you included me, and invited me and friends to the Hiney-Gate (Holiday Inn); and when a group of us went up to Michigan to watch the Buckeye's trample Michigan (I believe we were on the 50th yard line, 35 rows up).  I'll never forget. Thank you again, for all you taught me.  I truly believe I continued my career into the securities industry becuase of you.

I echo the sentiments of Jeff, you were my mentor as well when I first became an advisor. Here it is 25 years later and I still remember how you kept me going with encouragement and a timely meal. Your kindness was appreciated then and paid forward today. Thank you Gene for being one of the guys who did it the right way. My thoughts and prayers go to your family and the countless friends you have touched over the years.

Gene was my mentor, friend, and a person I looked up to. I will never forget all the times we shared travelling together...Paris, Vegas, LA , Boston, and more. I have great stories to tell from each adventure.  Thanks for teaching me the business the right way. My condolensces to his many friends and family.

I met Gene Rex at a railroad club meeting back in 1998. I was helping to save two railroad buildings in Ravenna and he attended. I was 16 at the time and Gene gave me my first real job. He was a great man and through him, I met a great friend Lee Hannahs. It saddens my heart to hear of this news and I remember how excited he was when he heard I got a job on the railroad out of high school. I'm still railroading today and I still am grateful that he gave me my first job and great memories.

Words can not express how much I will miss you, I will cherish my memories. I still smile when I remember the gas pump incident. We were headed to an appointment in Florida in a rental car. I was driving, we stopped for gas, I filled the car, got in and started it up, then pulled away from the pump. We heard a snap, saw a black rubber hose fly by and you burst into laughter. You were literally in pain from laughter as I completely mortified turned the nozzle and hose into the station.
We had much laughter between us, my friend, my boss, my mentor. Thank you so much for being you.

We have very many memories with Gene. He was truly a "one of a kind" man. He was always there for us, he was more than just "Boss-man", he was a dear friend and family. Our heart goes out to his family, and also to our fellow workers. We will miss him dearly, Rest in peace Gene, until we meet again.

Mrs. Dale Rex and family, so sorry, I will really miss talking business and about the Buckeyes with Gene. Fyi, Sue and I partied with Gene before and after the game the Buckeyes won the National Championship out in Tempe Arizonia and several times at the Holiday Inn in Columbus. Still a great memories.

I know so much about a man that i knew so little.As i sit here in Costa Rica, there is a small villiage in the mountains of acosta ,and today ALL the people are praying and mourning for his passing.They to knew so much about a man.His friendship to me was very important, he would call late at night ,and make me laugh.I think i'll still be waiting for those calls.He was generous in so many ways.I will forever miss my pal Gene.God Bless You.
