Betty was born in Hinton, West Virginia to parents Charles and Lottie Whitlock on November 9, 1936. She was retired after many years working as a cook at Triangle Pharmacy in Ravenna. Betty was a member of New Beginning Fellowship. She liked to read and really enjoyed working on crossword puzzles. Most of all she loved being around her family and especially her sister, Peggy.
Betty is survived by her children: Cindy (Randy) Christian, Lisa (Tony) Smith, Tony Dowdy, Terry (Sheila) Dowdy and Chuck (Cathy) Dowdy. Surviving also are her grandchildren: Jennifer Christian, Megan Christian, Kim (Larry) Wilcox, TJ Dowdy, Tracy Gonzales, Cory, Ashley and Brittani Dowdy, Tricia (Jason) Wade, Amber Dowdy, Lindsey (Kirk) Marsh, Courtney (Mitch) Gant and many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty also leaves her brother Billy Whitlock, her loving sister and best friend, Peggy Ladd, two step-sisters: Ilamae Morgan and Lorene Helvey and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clyde E. Dowdy, her daughter Janet Lynn, her four brothers: Ira, Albert, Charles and Danny Whitlock and five sisters: Myrtle Parker, Madeline Cooper, Irene Shrewsberry, Evelyn Meadows and Janice Weikle.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. where funeral services will be held on Monday, December 9, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Tommie Nicholas officiating.
