He was born in Martins Ferry on April 22, 1940 to the late August H and Madeline June (Walters) Koch Sr. Upon graduating high school, he moved to Akron where he enjoyed a long career as a driver for UPS, retiring after 33 years of service. A member of the Ravenna Church of the Nazarene, he enjoyed time spent with his family, especially making his special pancakes for everyone.
He was an avid bowler, notching six 300 games. Augie was a long-time member of the Akron Bowling Association, holding the offices of Director, President, Secretary/Treasurer and he also held offices of the Akron Bowling Council, the Greater Summit Bowling Association. He bowled on multiple leagues at Midway Lanes, participated in many bowling tournaments including the National Bowling Tournaments that allowed him to travel to the many cities that were hosting the tournament.
Augie is survived by his wife of 45 years, Veronica (Reynolds) Koch and his children Darlene (Bill) Rice, August H (Melissa) Koch, and David (Danielle) Koch. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren Madeline Koch, August H Koch IV, Coen Koch, Aubrey Koch Julia Koch, Evelyn Koch and leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Harriet Koch, his sister Nancy McCracken, stepsister Crystal Schmiz, son Charles Koch and his granddaughter Aislyn Koch.
Friends will be received at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 11:00 AM until the funeral service, officiated by Pastor Tracy Ogden-Johnson, beginning at 1:00 PM.
August’s family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Tamarack Ridge and the members of Bella Care Hospice who were so gracious and gave wonderful and compassionate care to August.
