PRESCOTT, AZ- Audrey Smith, age 101, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at her daughter's residence. Audrey was born in Randolph on August 14, 1922 to the late Joseph and Gertrude (Keller) Kissel. She was a graduate of Randolph High School and was a lifelong Randolph resident.
Audrey was a faithful member of St. Peter of the Fields Catholic Church. She was active for many years with the Altar Society, serving as president several times. She was also involved with the National Council of Catholic Women. Audrey provided the flowers for the Altar for over 40 years. She also gave her time to the Catholic Charities, the Randolph Historical Society, the Randolph Seniors Group, the Rootstown Garden Club, the Edinburg Hobby Club, and her Card Club.
Audrey was instrumental in the operation of the family's Black Angus cattle farm. She was a hard worker, and will be remembered for how she provided for her family. Audrey would milk the family dairy cow, churn butter and make cottage cheese; she would grind wheat and make a dozen loaves of bread every week. She would tend her large garden all summer and can most of her harvest. Canning 150 quarts of green beans was not unusual for her.
Audrey entered her bread, along with flower arrangements and different sewing projects into the Randolph Fair for many years. Audrey also was active in making quilts for unwed mothers in the area. Audrey lived her life to the fullest, didn't forget the small things, as she made her bed every morning.
Besides her parents, Audrey is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Joseph "Charlie" Smith, who shared 54 years of marriage with her; her siblings, Birdella McHenry, Lavern "Bud" Kissel, Doris Smith, Arlene Seeley, Donna Hughes, and Paul Kissel; and a granddaughter, Debbie Smith.
Audrey is survived by her children, Dorothy (Lee) Wise of Prescott, AZ, Walter (Rita) Smith of Randolph, Harry (Ruth) Smith of Leesburg, FL, and Charles (Karen) Smith of Kent; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; her sisters Martha Jane Smith of Rootstown, and Maxine Saltsman of Randolph.
Friends may call Tuesday 4-6PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St. in Ravenna. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM Wednesday at St. Peter of the Fields Catholic Church, 3487 Old Forge Rd in Rootstown, where friends may call an hour prior to the Mass. Interment in St. Peter of the Fields Church cemetery.
