Katherine S Sturgis

Katherine was born May 22, 1930, in Los Angeles, CA, to Samuel and Dorothy (Christianson) Steelman.

She attended Los Angeles High School and continued her education at the University of Southern California, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree.

Katherine enjoyed gardening, cooking, classical music and doing the daily crossword puzzle. She particularly enjoyed entertaining and spending time with people.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Nelson and son-in-law Cameron Hand of Honolulu, HI; her grandson Eric Hand of Grand Rapids, MI; and her sister Christine (Steelman) Kull of Las Vegas, NV.

Katherine was, indeed, a truly unique individual who will be greatly missed. She was generous with her time and her resources. Her memory will live on in our hearts. She would have wanted to be remembered with joy and not with sadness. To quote Dr. Seuss - "Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”

Katherine would have wanted a party with good food and good company. Sadly, the current pandemic makes such a gathering impossible. In lieu of a memorial gathering, consider leaving a comment here with a thought or a memory. When you are enjoying a good meal, consider raising a glass in remembrance of Katherine. If you feel comfortable, consider planting something in memory of Katherine. She truly loved to garden. In this way, her memory lives on.
