Bill was born on September 20, 1931, to the late Cathleen and William Lee Moore, Sr. He grew up in Smithfield, NC, where he graduated from high school. After serving 4 years in the US Navy, he attended and graduated from Atlantic Christian College, now Barton College, where he met Betty.
After graduation, he went to work with Atlas Supply Company in Atlanta and was later transferred to Raleigh as a salesman of plumbing/heating/cooling supplies. After a few years, he and two partners formed Moore Supply Company where he continued to sell plumbing/heating/cooling supplies. During his spare time, he would buy an old house, convert it into apartments, and rent them. He did all the work himself. Since he enjoyed doing this, he sold his share in Moore Supply and worked full-time as owner/manager of Moore Apartments for many years. He taught his son Billy the skills of renovation. When Bill’s health started declining, he transferred the management of the business to Billy until it was dissolved.
In addition to Betty, his wife of 64 years, he is survived by his daughter Rebecca “Becky” Moore of the home and son William L Moore, III (“Billy”) and his wife Sally of Cary. Grandchildren include William L Moore, IV (“Billy”) and wife Samantha of Raleigh; Tim and wife Meredith Moore of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and Chris and Mary Kait Moore of Raleigh. Great grandchildren include twins Sophia and Brooklyn of Raleigh; Reid, Gibson, and Palmer of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and twins Mary Elle and Fisher of Raleigh.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Jim Moore; his sisters Ann Moore, Mary Casale, and Nancy Creech.
