He was born to the late William Henry and Jewel Hartley Jones, on December 19, 1948, in Columbus, GA, where he spent his adolescence.
Bill attended and graduated from the University of Georgia, where he grew a love for the Georgia Bulldogs. After graduation, he began his career as an electrical engineer, which eventually led to his move to Raleigh.
Bill was an avid UGA fan (GO DAWGS!) and enjoyed watching UGA football games, golf, coaching little league, spending time by the pool, and listening to Jimmy Buffett. He also was an animal lover, who loved cats and dogs of all kinds.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Starlin Jones; son, Brian Jones; daughter, Crystal Jones Joyner; step-son, Mark Cady; his grandchildren, Samantha Jones, Evan Joyner, Nora Cady, and Russell Cady; a sister Nona Christie; niece, Kim Rodgers, and her two daughters, Tiffany Prescott, and Jen Prescott.
A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be scheduled in the early summer. Time, date, and location are forthcoming.
