Bill was the son of the late William Joseph Hindman and Myrtle Collins Hindman. He was a graduate of Rock Hill High School Class of 1961 and attended Clemson University earning a degree in Civil Engineering. Bill then joined the US Army where he completed Special Forces training to become a Green Beret. He had fond memories and many great stories from his time serving in Panama, Ecuador, Peru, and Nicaragua. He went on to join the US Army Reserves rising to the rank of Colonel of the 108th Division, 3rd Brigade. Bill also graduated from the US Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Bill met his wife, Joyce, while she was in nursing school. They married in 1968 and celebrated 54 years of marriage together. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter, Shannon Hindman Dunn (William); son, Alan Joseph Hindman (Megan); and four beautiful grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Linda Hilburn, and Donna Hindman Glaser (John).
Bill also enjoyed his corporate career with Carolina Power & Light in Raleigh. He was a Site Manager at the Harris Plant and later worked in Wholesale Power negotiations. He loved the many people he met in his time with CP&L. Bill also loved cars, especially German imports, understanding how they worked, and shining them up. He had a beloved Porsche 911SC that was a favorite for many years. Bill & Joyce loved traveling, spending time in Myrtle Beach, and spending time with the grandchildren.
A service was held on Monday, November 14, 2022 in the Mausoleum Chapel at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh.
