Bill, a beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away April 15th after bravely battling Lewy Body Dementia. He lived a life defined by his energy and humor. He was a pillar of strength, always willing to support and guide his family, friends and colleagues.
Bill was born on January 13, 1948 in Pine Island, NY. He grew up in Pine Island and Warwick where he met his high school sweetheart, Carol. Carol was his true love that he shared most of his life with. He built his own television and electronics business, “Gurda TV”, that was well respected on Main Street in Warwick. He was a dedicated business owner for 30 years. Bill and Carol retired to Southport, NC and then moved to Raleigh in 2019.
Bill had a love for water. He was an avid swimmer most of his life. He had a passion for cruises, speed boats, kayaking, scuba diving, and simply sitting on a pier to enjoy the ocean view. He was an animal lover. His dogs were his best friends that would go to work with him. His grandkids meant the world to him and he loved playing, being silly and teaching them. Even as he started to decline, grandkids and grandpets brought him happiness and laughter.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents William and Florence Gurda and his sister Maureen Bush.
Bill is survived by his wife Carol of 54 years; his children, Jason Gurda (Lauren) and Melanie Hewitt (Marc); his 4 grandchildren, Katherine and Andrew Gurda, Gregory and Cameron Hewitt; his sister, Kathy Gillian (husband Bill); his brothers, Tom Gurda and Dan Gurda. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
