Bill was born in Raleigh and is predeceased by his loving wife Reba, his parents Romie and Grizzel Carter, and brother James. He leaves his five children; sons: William Carter his wife Mary and their children Farris, Victoria and Luke of Holden Beach, Thomas Carter of Raleigh; daughters: Carol Moneypenny and husband Steve of Raleigh and Holden Beach, Cathy Cawthorne and her husband Graham and their child Sunshine of Raleigh, and Rebecca Carter of Cary.
A warm smile and a handshake were always a trademark of the gentleman whose friends called him Bill. He was a hard worker early in life from the time at his father’s furniture store to attaining Eagle Scout and Scoutmaster. He joined the U.S. Air Force after his graduation from Broughton High School in 1950.
Continuing his work ethic after graduating from UNC Chapel Hill in accounting and working in the field, Bill returned to the family business later opening a store on his own. In 1970 he changed course and began Carter Real Estate which was his passion to this day.
Not to be all work and no play, Bill made time for many community and social groups. Bill always enjoyed lending a helping hand as a charter member of Forest Hills Baptist Church, in the Theta Chi fraternity at Carolina, and as a Mason and Shrine member. Later in his life he enjoyed meetings with his friends at The Old Raleigh Boys group and his Sunday school class at church.
His personal life was filled with family and occasional trips to the coast to enjoy a little fishing and relaxing with friends.
Bill was a great father, friend, partner and businessman whose warmth and honesty will be missed by all.
Our thanks to all the staff and professionals who have made these last days more comfortable for this good man.
