William “Bill” Carey Miller III, of Raleigh, NC, passed away peacefully the morning of December 27th, 2021 at the age of 65 after battling Lewy Body Dementia. Born August 29th, 1956 in Charleston, South Carolina, Bill grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He attended Terry Sanford High School where he was a star athlete and lettered in football, basketball, tennis, and track. After graduation in 1974, he went on to obtain a B. A. in Business Management and Economics from North Carolina State University.
Bill was always the strong silent type, but those who knew him knew he had a wicked sense of humor. He was happiest being outdoors on his Jones Brothers skiff, shooting skeet, woodworking, tailgating at NC State football games, or enjoying time with his family and friends. He loved old movies, especially old westerns, and the Beatles. Bill had a long career in the Raleigh area and retired as Property Manager at the NC Railroad Company in 2018.
He is preceded in death by his father, Dr. William Carey Miller Jr. and his stepfather, Al Rummans.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Cawthorne Miller; son, William Christopher Miller (Leigh); daughter, Sarah Alexis Brown (Stephen); and grandchildren, Virginia Morgan Miller and Charlotte Dixon Miller. He is also survived by his mother, Juanita Rummans; siblings, Michael Miller (Vernell), Jennifer Nicholas (Ted), and Jonathan Miller (Jerry); stepmother, Connie Miller and stepbrother, John Parris (Meredith). Bill also leaves behind many other dear, extended family members and friends, especially Eddie Wetherill.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 15th at Edenton United Methodist Church (228 W. Edenton Street Raleigh, NC 27603). A reception will follow immediately in the Garden Gallery of the church. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.brownwynneraleigh.com.
